I am no paint expert, but I was told when painting cars, you need to stay away from any potential air movement like wind. for one, dirt. for two uneven paint layer.

That, right there, is one fine specimen of “free candy” van in prime shape. Steelies, no windows and looks to be in decent shape. The red color gives you a lot of choices when you decide to go with “free puppies, ice cream and candy”.

Preferable would be to strip it down to bare metal, but that’s a lot of extra effort. I’ve sanded the whole thing down with 400, after doing spot and rust repairs. I’m hoping it lasts 5-10 years of low abuse. If I still have the car then... I’ll pay a shop to do it truly right!

I’ll be eliminating the wind by laying tarp along the front, back, and sides with a staple gun and duct tape, using the tires you see to hold it at the bottom. Should be OK on the wind front once that’s done.

There’s been a lot of sanding and washing these past few days; once the last coat of primer dries I’ll be doing a thorough final wash, then start laying the paint tarp. I’ll be using a good 2k primer so I think it’ll get good adhesion.

Hah, the one in the carport on jack stands! Gotta build the paint room around her. ‘77 Fiat spider with the 1800/5 spd.

Those vans.... they may need a little more prep before a respray!

Bonus, the smog that pours out via the exhaust leaks doubles as knockout gas, as long as the child is sufficiently small for the fume dosage.

Garage repaints always remind me of my uncle’s story. He did all the prep work and was ready to go when the sun went down. He was making good progress until he had to turn on the garage lights. That’s when the bug invasion began. They were attracted to the bright lights and landed all over the still-wet paint.

The next day he got up and started sanding again....

Hahahaha! I’ll be setting up a paint room at least, but that does give me pause about running late into dusk tomorrow, will have to plan to finish by 2 or 3...
